Summer 2004 and Beyond: Going to the GoGo
Saturday, 21 July 2007
Friday at Mirrors
Mirrors, 33 New York Avenue N.E. Washington, DC 20002

I did not try to take a pen in, so all of this is off the top of my head.

Patrice, Rachelle, Nakia, Robin, Candi, Kia, NeeNee (celebrating her birthday), Kia, Tasha, Tamara, DeeDee, Darrell, Shameika, Byrd, Sharon, Juanita, India, Peg Leg, 6'9, Theos, Kali, and Trece were there,

The Band
They had a different line up this week, neither Allison nor Jay was present, but they actually had a larger line up than usual, with 2 percussionists and a full horn section, including TonySax.
They performed Justin Timberlake's Sexy Back and another song I didn't recognize - Zach played a nice solo, they cranked with the additional percussion.
Cleophus said, "We're available for weddings and Bar Mitzvahs. Well, probably none of you are Jewish..." The DJ joked, "I'm Jewish."

Packy told me Unity Band would be playing at the Market Lounge again in 3 weeks.

Familiar Faces
Mike was not present tonight.
First set
1) Alternating Sean-led Musiq's Buddy / Percussion solo - the percussionist from The Band, whom Donnell identified as Tommy Cuz, an original from Northeast Groovers, looking like Black Jesus, sat in until Smoke arrived
2) Donnell-led "Hey ay, Ho oh"
3) Alternating Halima-led Shareefa's Cry No More / Percussion solo - the crowd shouted, "Wind me up, Smoke!" and Donnell responded, "It's too early for that, just a little socket."
4) Sean-led Usher's Bad Girl -->
5) Donnell & Sean-led Tattoo / Percussion solo
6) Alternating Sean-led T-Pain Featuring Yung Joc's Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin') / Donnell-led "___ Is in the building"
7) Donnell-led 50 Cent's In Da Club (tease)
8) Halima-led Mis-Teeq's Style
9) Halima-led Nelly Furtado's Say It Right - really strong solos by Doc and Dwayne

Second set
1) Percussion solo (it cranked) with Donnell-led chants: "Brandywine, friends of mine" / "Hands Free, you're playing with me"
2) Halima-led Kelly Rowland's Like This featuring Eve - it cranked
3) Alternating Sean-led Justin Timberlake's Sexy Back - it cranked (I still hate it) / Donnell-led Gangsta / "___ how you going to do that?" (I'm not positive of the words)
4) Donnell-led "___ Is yes!" / "You make me want to see, just how freaky you can be" / "Hey Smoke Oh" - it cranked/ "Keep it low"
5) Halima-led Rihanna's Umbrella - it cranked

I talked to Jackie (she was at the drive in at McDonald's) as I walked to my car.
