Non-GoGo: Mike Stern Band at Blues Alley
Blues Alley, 1073 Wisconsin Ave. NW Washington, DC 20007

On the Miles Davis List last week, I got a post that said that Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, and Marcus Miller were touring together in 2008. I checked Victor Wooten's tour schedule and I saw that he was playing at Blues Alley Tuesday to Thursday of this week with Mike Stern. I decided to attend the early show tonight. The line up I saw last year, the same as this performance except with Richard Bona instead of Victor Wooten, followed up at Blues Alley on Friday through Sunday.

The line up was: Mike Stern (guitar), Victor Wooten (bass), Bob Franceschini (Sax) (for some reason he wasn't advertised on the bill), and Dennis Chambers (drums).
I arrived at 7:30. I sat at the table on the left side all the way up front. Victor was the first one I saw, he warmed up.

Mike Stern walked around and talked to a number of people in the audience.

They started at 8:15 PM. I had a good view of everyone but Victor. It was interesting to see their movements - Mike Stern and Dennis Chambers were pretty mellow most of the time, and Bob Franceschini moved his body up and down. When Bob Franceschini didn't have parts to play, he would stand in front of the piano on the left side of the stage - in front of me and a little to the left. He also occasionally walked to the bar. Mike Stern stood over by him, directly in front of me during both Dennis Chambers' drum solo and later during Victor Wooten's bass solo. I didn't recognize much of the set, but Victor did a lot of quoting songs during his play. They definitely played KT off Mike's latest album, "Who Let the Cats Out", a Richard Bona song, and Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time. They played for 90 minutes. I enjoyed it!
